| Coccidiosis
is a disease of the intestines of birds caused by a range of coccidial
protozoa. Affected birds suffer severe intestinal upsets that may include
diarrhoea, blood in the droppings or sudden death.
Budgies, finches and pigeons are the most commonly affected species. Regular treatment of susceptible birds is recommended as are treatments when the weather conditions are conducive to the disease. Warm wet conditions allow the organism to survive in the aviary and multiply in the bird. Coccivet is a water soluble formula that is added to the drinking water at the rate of 15 mL per 10 Litres of water. Birds should be treated for 5 - 7 days depending on the severity of the disease.
